Wages in Cyprus: One in three workers earns less than 1,500 euros
Earnings in Cyprus averaged €2,548 gross per month in the second quarter of 2026. This is 3% more than a year earlier. However, this average conceals significant variations: 33.6% of workers received less than €1,500 gross per month.
Among non-Cypriots, the percentage earning below this threshold was 46.3%. The new data also reveals the difference between the average wages of women and men.
Salaries in Cyprus: Most below €3,000
The largest group consisted of employees with a salary ranging from 1,500 to 2,999 euros gross per month41.4% of employees fell into this category.
Another 33.6% earned less than 1,500 euros. This means that 75% of employees received less than 3,000 euros gross per month.
At the other end of the list were people earning at least €6,000 gross. They constituted 5.6% of the workforce. Data for 2026 are preliminary.
Cypriots and workers from other countries
Among employees with Cypriot citizenship, less than 1,500 euros gross were earned 27%. This was the case in the group of people without Cypriot citizenship 46,3%.
At the same time, 4.3% of Cypriot workers and 8.1% of non-Cypriot workers earned at least €6,000. This demonstrates the diversity of non-Cypriot workers.
The report does not provide a separate figure for Poles, so it is impossible to determine the percentage of Polish workers earning less than €1,500.
Women earn less on average
The average monthly salary of men in the second quarter was 2708 euros gross, and women 2,345 euros grossThe difference between these averages is 363 euros.
Compared to the second quarter of 2025, the average increased by 2.1% for men and 4.1% for women. However, the higher rate of growth among women did not eliminate the gap between the two groups.
37.2% of women and 30.8% of men earned less than €1,500 gross. The data alone don't explain the reasons for these differences—the type of work performed, working hours, and position may all be factors.
The average doesn't tell you how much a typical worker earns.
The average of €2,548 is calculated by adding up salaries and dividing them by the number of employees. Higher salaries for some employees therefore increase the result for the entire group.
The quarterly announcement did not provide a median figure that would indicate the midpoint of the salary distribution. However, we know the median from a separate report. the entire year 2025: it amounted to EUR 1,953 gross, with an average of EUR 2,591.
These data refer to different time periods, so the difference between them should not be treated as a quarterly change in the median.
The gross amount is not a transfer to the account
Salaries in the CYSTAT list are given before deduction of tax and compulsory contributionsThe gross amount does not correspond to the sum the employee receives on account.
The office takes into account not only the base salary but also overtime, allowances, bonuses, and additional payments, such as the thirteenth month, if they were paid during the period under review. Therefore, the statistical amount does not necessarily correspond to a specific individual's regular monthly salary.
The average salary in the second quarter of 2026 was €73 higher than a year earlier. This is a nominal increase—it doesn't mean that every employee received a raise or that their purchasing power increased by 3%.
