Sunday weather: local storms, possible hail and 27 degrees
The weather forecast for Sunday will bring further localized rainfall and isolated thunderstorms. This morning, October 4th, the showers are expected to be concentrated on the coast, south, and east of the island. Later, rain will be more likely in the mountains, inland, and northern parts.
Hail is possible during storms, and winds may change direction and become stronger. Temperatures will reach around 27 degrees Celsius inland and on the coast, and 17 degrees Celsius in the highest parts of the Troodos Mountains. Unsettled weather will continue into the early part of the week.
Sunday weather: rain on the coast in the morning
According to the Department of Meteorology's forecast, the region remains under the influence of an unstable air mass. This means unstable conditions and the possibility of localized thunderstorms.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Sunday morning, primarily in coastal regions and the south and east. Those planning to visit the beach or travel to these parts of the island should check current conditions before departure.
However, this doesn't mean continuous rain across the entire area. The phenomena will be localized, so the weather may vary significantly between individual locations.
UPDATE - SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4
Yellow warning for severe thunderstorms until 6:00 p.m.
The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for locally severe thunderstorms. This warning is valid from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 4. 03:30 to 18:00 local timeSince early morning, heavy rainfall has been occurring in various parts of the island.
During storms it is possible hail and sudden intensification and changes in wind directionThe intensity of rainfall may locally exceed 35 mm per hourThe phenomena will occur in different places and at different times of the day.
Before setting off, it's worth checking current conditions. During heavy rain, slow down, increase your distance from other vehicles, and avoid driving through flooded sections of road.
Later, storms in the mountains and inland of the island
Later in the day, local rainfall and isolated thunderstorms may develop mainly in the mountains, inland and in the northern part of the island.
Hail cannot be ruled out during storms. The wind will then be variable and may intensify, so conditions may deteriorate in a short time.
Outside of thunderstorms, winds will be mostly southeasterly to southwesterly, light to moderate, with a force of 3-4 on the Beaufort scale. Winds will occasionally reach 4-5 in the northern half of the afternoon.
The sea will remain slightly rough at most.
Cool night from Saturday to Sunday
The forecast for the night of October 3-4 predicted partly cloudy skies and isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly on the coast.
Temperatures were expected to drop to around 14 degrees Celsius inland, 18 degrees Celsius in coastal regions, and 8 degrees Celsius in the highest mountain ranges. These are forecast values, not a summary of measurements from the previous night.
For those heading to the Troodos Mountains in the morning, this means they need to prepare for significantly cooler conditions than at the coast. Sunday's maximum temperature in the highest parts of the mountains will be around 17 degrees Celsius.
Downpours on residents' recordings
Another night also with a possibility of precipitation
Sunday night into Monday, the sky will be partly cloudy. Later, isolated showers or thunderstorms may develop along the coast.
The wind will be light and variable, around force 3 on the Beaufort scale. The sea will remain calm or slightly rough.
Storms are also possible from Monday to Wednesday
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, October 5th to 7th, the weather will remain partly cloudy at times. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast, mainly in the afternoon, primarily in the mountains and inland.
At the same time, temperatures will gradually rise slightly. By Wednesday, they are expected to approach average values for this time of year, while remaining slightly below normal in some areas.
When planning Sunday trips, it's worth considering the local nature of the phenomena. Clear spells in one location don't necessarily mean similar conditions along the entire route, especially when traveling from the coast to the mountains.
