Home renovation grants. Applications closed after a day and a half.
The Cyprus home improvement grants attracted so much interest that the application process closed on October 21st, about a day and a half after it opened. The requested funding exceeded the initial budget of €20 million on the first day. An additional €7.5 million was also insufficient.
The Ministry of Energy, Trade, and Industry is no longer accepting new applications. The program provided support of up to €32,000 per home. Previously, the December 30th deadline was a cutoff date; the application process could end earlier if available funds were exhausted.
Home improvement grants. The extra money wasn't enough either.
Applications began being accepted on Tuesday, October 20th at 9:00 a.m. Demand was so high that the initial €20 million cap was exceeded that day.
The ministry allocated another €7.5 million to the program, derived from savings from previous calls for proposals. Total funding increased to €27.5 million.
Reserve applications were also allowed to be accepted. This was intended to help utilize available funds and extend support to as many eligible applicants as possible.
However, demand also exceeded the increased pool. On Wednesday, the ministry announced that the application process had ended.
Closing the call for applications does not mean that all grants will be paid out.
The announcement that the budget has been exhausted should not be confused with the €27.5 million being distributed to homeowners. It's about the interest in support at the application stage.
Submitted documents require review. Simply registering your application does not constitute a decision to award funding or confirmation that all planned expenses will be approved.
This is especially important for those who have already begun preparations or work. The possibility of early investment completion did not guarantee funding.
What about people who have already submitted their application?
In accordance with the program rules, documents are considered in the order of electronic submission, taking into account the conditions for obtaining support.
Applicants should retain their application confirmation and investment documentation and review all correspondence related to their case. The outcome of the assessment, fulfillment of criteria, and expenditure eligibility will be considered.
Closing the system to new applications does not automatically mean that all previously submitted applications have been resolved. A reserve application should not be considered a grant award.
The deadline until December was valid with reservation
The original schedule indicated December 30, 2026, as the last possible date for submitting documents. However, this was conditional on the availability of funding.
We previously announced the possibility of an early closure in the program announcement. Now, this scenario has come to pass.
For those still completing their paperwork, this means that the December deadline no longer allows for entry into the closed application period. The current program status takes precedence over the previous schedule.
What jobs could you get money for?
The “I save – I modernize houses 2026” program concerns improving the energy efficiency of older residential buildings.
The scope includes insulation, window and door replacement, solar water heaters and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
The maximum of €32,000 is the upper limit for support, depending on the renovation option and the required energy efficiency. The program does not guarantee a uniform payment for every owner or a subsidy for any renovation.
Financing is provided under THALEIA 2021–2027, with the participation of the European Union and the Republic of Cyprus.
Will there be another recruitment?
The announcement that applications have closed does not indicate a reopening date for the program or a subsequent budget increase.
The Ministry recalled that the May 15 announcement was intended to allow interested parties to prepare their investments in advance. However, it did not replace the submission of an application and its approval.
Those who missed the deadline must wait for a possible new decision from the ministry. There is currently no confirmed date for the additional round.
