They rented a house in Limassol without the owners' knowledge? Police are investigating the suspicious deal.
A family living abroad learned from a real estate agent that the house they inherited in Limassol had been rented out to other people. According to the report, none of the heirs consented to this. Police arrested the 49-year-old man, and on Monday, October 12, the court approved his eight-day detention pending investigation.
Investigators are searching for the original lease agreement, which they suspect is forged. The woman who occupies the house claims that the detainee assured her that he had obtained the consent of one of the heirs. The man denies involvement in the case. Police are planning further searches and interrogations.
They found out about the rental of the house in Limassol when it was sold
The case was reported by a woman permanently residing in Kuwait.
As she told the police, after her father's death in April 2020, the house was inherited jointly by her, her mother, four sisters and her brother.
May 18, 2026 She received a message from the real estate agent handling the sale of the building. She learned about a lease agreement signed in April with a woman from Limassol.
The applicant assured that none of the heirs had entered into any written or oral agreement with the tenant.
The neighbors had previously notified the police.
Even before the agent's message, May 11, officers from the Polemidia police station arrived at the home. The intervention was initiated after neighbors reported a possible unauthorized entry to the property.
At the house, police found a couple who showed a photo of a lease agreement. The document allegedly indicated an agreement between the tenants and the three co-owners of the property.
One of the officers photographed the document. Investigators are currently trying to locate the original, which requires verification of its authenticity.
Therefore, simply presenting a photo of the contract does not determine whether it was actually concluded with the consent of the owners.
Tenant: the agent assured that he had obtained consent
The woman living in the house gave a statement to the Limassol Police Criminal Investigation Department. August 25.
According to her account, at the beginning of the year, she asked someone from Lebanon to contact the owners and help arrange a lease. Later, the 49-year-old reportedly contacted her.
She claimed that the man assured her that he had spoken to one of the heirs living in Kuwait and had obtained his consent to rent the property.
In April, he allegedly handed her a contract, which he signed as a witness. She then moved into the house with her partner.
According to her testimony, the couple did not pay rent because they were carrying out renovations based on an oral agreement with the suspect. This is the version presented by the tenant, which the police are verifying during the investigation.
The detainee denies involvement in the case
As part of the investigation, police identified a telephone number whose details in police systems matched those of a 49-year-old man from Lebanon.
Investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested Sunday evening, October 11, at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department in Limassol.
After being informed of the reasons for his arrest, he denied committing the acts described. During his oral hearing, he also denied any involvement in the case.
The following day he appeared before the Limassol District Court, which approved an eight-day detention for further investigation. This decision is not a verdict or an admission of guilt.
The police are looking for the original contract
The investigation covers suspicions of, among other things, document forgery, document misuse, unauthorized entry onto another person’s property, and fraudulent transactions involving property belonging to other people.
Searches of two locations and a written interview of another person were planned.
It remains crucial to determine who prepared the contract, where the signatures on it came from, and whether anyone actually had consent to rent the house.
For now, the owners deny giving such consent, the tenant cites the broker's assurances, and the detainee dismisses the allegations. Further police investigations are expected to provide answers.
