How did Poles vote in Cyprus? Election results and reader survey.

How did Poles in Cyprus vote in the recent elections? In the 2019 and 2023 parliamentary elections, the Civic Coalition won over half of the valid votes. Rafał Trzaskowski won the second rounds of the 2020 and 2025 presidential elections by a landslide. We verified the results and data on those who voted based on their certificates.

The results from the Cypriot region don't just reflect the preferences of the Polish community living on the island. Visitors, including tourists, also vote here. In the second round of the 2025 presidential election, 551 people used the certificate—over 28% of those voting. Which party would you vote for today?

Four years later, on October 15, 2023, the number of valid votes increased to 2,141. The Civic Coalition (KO) won 1,135 votes, once again surpassing half the support threshold. Its result was 53.01 percent.

Compared to 2019, the KO's percentage result changed by only 0.14 percentage points, although the number of votes cast for it more than doubled.

When comparing the remaining lists, coalition changes must be taken into account. In 2023, the Polish People's Party (PSL) ran jointly with Poland 2050 as the Third Way, so its result cannot be treated as a simple equivalent of support for the PSL alone four years earlier.

Presidential elections: two clear victories for Trzaskowski

In the second round of the presidential elections on July 12, 2020, Rafał Trzaskowski won 492 votes in Cyprus, and Andrzej Duda won 77. This gave him 86.47% and 13.53% of the valid votes, respectively.

In the next presidential race, on June 1, 2025, Trzaskowski won again in Nicosia. He received 1,519 votes, or 78.70 percent. Karol Nawrocki received 411 votes, or 21.30 percent.

In 2020, this also includes ballots cast by mail. Bar scale: 0–100%. This certificate does not confirm the purpose of the stay is for tourism purposes.

Results for the Polish diaspora and visitors

Voters voting on the basis of a certificate could include tourists, business travelers and other people staying outside their place of permanent residence.

However, this is not an accurate count of tourists. A vacationer could have previously registered on the consular electoral roll and voted without a certificate. Therefore, the remaining participants cannot automatically be considered permanent residents of Cyprus.

The records do not allow for the identification of who voted for those using the certificates. Their votes are counted together with the rest, maintaining the secrecy of the vote.

This historical overview shows the choices of Poles who cast their votes in Cyprus on specific dates. Our survey, in turn, will allow us to see how CYPRNews readers will respond to the question about today's election.
