Did you get an email like this from GESY? They checked to see if you still have access to the system.

Some Cypriot GESY beneficiaries may receive a message informing them of the completion of the "eligibility re-evaluation process," which is a re-verification of their right to use the public healthcare system. The email may seem alarming, but if it states that the process was successful and the beneficiary "continues to meet the eligibility criteria," it's good news: their GESY eligibility has been maintained.

This is not a procedure specific to a single individual or a report of an account issue. The Health Insurance Organization has the legal right to re-examine the details of individuals enrolled in GESY to determine whether they continue to meet the conditions set out in the regulations. Once this review is completed, entitlement to benefits may be renewed or terminated.

The rest of the article is below

What exactly does this email mean?

The message visible in the screenshot contains the most important sentence:

the re-assessment process has been successfully completed as the beneficiary still meets the eligibility criteria for GESY.

In practice, this simply means:

GESY has checked the beneficiary status → the criteria are still met → access to the system remains active.

If someone has just received this final message, does not need to submit a new application or re-register with GESY.

EMAIL FROM GESA
What does the content of the message mean?
"Successfully concluded" – the inspection has been completed
"Continues to meet the eligibility criteria" – you still meet the GESY conditions
"May continue to enjoy the benefits" – you can still receive benefits
No request for documents – you don't have to send anything in such an email
This is confirmation that verification has been completed, not information about the loss of entitlement to GESY.

Why is GESY even re-checking beneficiaries?

The Health Insurance Organisation explains on its official website that it may periodically re-assess the details of people on its beneficiary register.

It's about checking whether a person still belongs to one of the categories entitled to use the systemThe procedure is conducted based on the provisions regarding registration, renewal and termination of beneficiary status.

This is particularly important in a country where a large proportion of the population are citizens of other EU countries and third countries, and their entitlement to GESY may be related to, for example, employment, residence status or insurance.

Poles can also be tested

For Poles living on the island it is important that Cypriot citizenship is not required to use GESY.

A citizen of another European Union country living in the areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus may be a beneficiary, among others, when:

  • is employed,
  • has permanent residence status,
  • is a family member of the entitled person,
  • or is insured in another EU country under the terms provided for by the system.

Such rules are provided directly by GESY in the section on beneficiary eligibility.

Therefore, the re-verification itself does not mean that the office suspects any irregularityIt is part of the official procedure for checking whether the conditions are still met.

Not everyone will get the same message right away.

The process may vary.

In the first stage, GESY can send re-evaluation notification, which is a notification that re-verification has begun. If additional documents are required, the beneficiary receives information on what they should provide and by what date.

Documents sent electronically are to be scanned and sent in PDF formatGESY expressly states that photographs of documents are not accepted. For matters related to reassessment, the following address is provided: benreevaluation@gesy.org.cy

If the office has sufficient data, the process may be much less noticeable to the beneficiary.

Finally, the decision comes.

And this is the final email we show.

What if someone gets a request for documents?

This email should not be ignored.

GESY warns that if the beneficiary does not respond within the specified timeframe or does not provide the required documents, the Health Insurance Organisation will make a decision based on the information it already has.

If it turns out that the conditions are no longer met, entitlement to benefits may be terminated.

If you have any doubts, you can contact GESY directly:

17000 – from Cyprus
+357 22 017000 – from abroad
info@gesy.org.cy

The official contact center confirms this data on the GESY website.

It is also worth checking the contact details

There is one more practical detail.

GESY sends re-verification notifications to e-mail address saved in the systemIf the beneficiary has not indicated email as a contact method, correspondence may be sent by traditional mail to the declared address.

Therefore, especially after moving or changing your email address, it is worth checking whether the data in GESY is up to date.

Individuals who have linked their Beneficiary Record to their portal account can update some of their data themselves. In other cases, GESY allows them to contact their personal physician to have their data corrected.

Did you receive an email like the one in the picture? That's good news.

So the most important thing is one thing.

If the message contains information: “eligibility re-evaluation process (…) was successfully concluded” and "continues to meet the eligibility criteria" this is not a warning about the loss of GESY.

On the contrary.

This is confirmation that the system has re-verified your permissions and the right to use GESY remains active.

Since the reassessment of beneficiaries is an official procedure conducted by the Health Insurance Organization, other islanders may also receive similar messages. However, I haven't found an official announcement indicating that a one-time mass screening of all beneficiaries is currently underway—so I wouldn't describe it as a "large-scale GESA operation."
