Rain in Cyprus: September hit 180% of normal rainfall. More storms ahead.
September in Cyprus turned out to be rainier than usual. From the beginning of the month until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, an average of 8.1 mm of rain fell in the areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. 180% of the norm for the entire month of September, which is 4.5 mm.
In some places, the difference is even greater. The Larnaca airport station recorded 31.8 mm of rainfall, more than 18 times the local September average. Rainy weather is expected to continue in the coming days, with localized rainfall, thunderstorms, and even hail in some areas.

Where did the most rain fall?
According to preliminary data from the Cyprus Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall total was recorded at Larnaca Airport. A slightly lower amount fell in Kornos.
The highest percentage of the norm fell in Frenaros, although Larnaca and Kornos saw more rain in millimeters. Each station is compared to the norm for its area.

Tuesday, September 29th, is expected to be mostly sunny in the morning, with some clouds in places. Localized showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, primarily in the mountains, but also inland and in the southeast.
The temperature is expected to reach approximately 30°C inland and on the south and east coasts. In the west and north, approximately 28°C, and in the highest parts of the mountains about 19°C.

Some showers and thunderstorms may become heavier or last longer on Friday. Temperatures are expected to gradually decrease and may be below normal for this time of year by the end of the week.
