Salaries in Cyprus: Average €2,591. The median shows a different reality.
Earnings in Cyprus averaged €2,591 gross per month in 2025. However, the median was significantly lower at €1,953 gross. This is the middle value of the wage distribution, which better reflects the situation of a large portion of the workforce than the average. CYSTAT published the data on October 19, 2026.
Differences are also visible between Cypriot workers and other employees. The median gross salary for Cypriot workers was €2,145, while for foreign workers it was €1,597. The report does not provide a separate figure for Poles living on the island.
Wages in Cyprus. Why is the average higher than the median?
The information about an average salary exceeding €2,500 may come as a surprise to those whose salaries are significantly lower. However, this doesn't mean that the statistics reflect the remuneration received by most workers.
The average is calculated by adding up earnings and dividing them by the number of employees. Therefore, high salaries for some individuals increase the average for the entire group.
The median indicates the middle of an ordered set. Half of the observations are at or below the median, and half are at or below the median.
In the 2025 data, the average exceeds the median by 638 euros per monthThis is a significant difference when assessing the situation on the labor market.
Salaries have increased, but not by the same amount for everyone.
Compared to 2024, the median increased by 72 euro, that is, about 3,8%The average increased by 108 euro, so about 4,3%.
Monthly salaries in Cyprus
| Indicator | 2024 | 2025 | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median | 1881 euro | 1953 euro | 3,8% |
| Mean | 2483 euro | 2591 euro | 4,3% |
These are nominal changes. They do not automatically translate into the same increase in purchasing power or a pay raise for every employee. Information on the cost of living is also needed to assess the improvement in households' situation.
Foreign workers at both ends of the scale
The median salary of foreign workers was 548 euros lower than among people with Cypriot citizenship.
At the same time, foreign workers do not form a homogeneous group. They were more likely than Cypriots to be in the income bracket below €1,500 and in the highest category—€6,000 gross per month.
Therefore, the €1,597 figure should not be considered a predictable salary for everyone coming to the island. Industry, position, experience, and employment conditions are all important factors.
The data also doesn't allow us to determine how much Poles earn specifically. The category of foreign workers includes people of various citizenships.
Gross is not a transfer to an account
The stated earnings in Cyprus are the amounts before deductionsThey cannot be compared directly to net salary.
The statement includes not only the base salary but also additional remuneration components, including bonuses, overtime, and thirteenth and fourteenth month pay, if paid. Therefore, the statistical monthly amount does not necessarily correspond to the regular salary received each month.
When evaluating an offer, it is worth determining whether the quoted rate includes benefits, how many working hours the contract stipulates and whether additional payments are due.
How to compare wages in Cyprus?
The national average is a useful benchmark, but it doesn't replace comparing offers for similar positions. The median completes the picture by showing how far the middle of the salary distribution is from the average.
Before changing jobs or moving, it's worth comparing a specific offer with housing costs, commuting costs, and daily expenses. Only then can you assess what the proposed salary means for your budget.
