Ryanair is reducing the baggage drop-off time. Starting November 10th, you'll need to check in one hour before your flight.

From November 10, 2026, Ryanair will close its airport check-in and baggage drop desks 60 minutes before scheduled departure. Currently, the standard deadline is 40 minutes. This change will apply to all airports in the airline's network, including flights to and from Cyprus.

For passengers checking in a suitcase, this means 20 minutes less to complete the formalities at the deskThe hour before departure is the cut-off time, not the recommended arrival time at the terminal. You'll need to factor in the queue beforehand, and then proceed through security and any passport control.

Ryanair baggage check-in. What will change in November?

New rules will come into effect on Tuesday, November 10, 2026This applies to both check-in at the airport and at the baggage drop-off desks.

Passengers on flights scheduled for 6:00 p.m. will have to complete check-in before the desk closes at 17:00. With the current 40-minute rule, the cut-off time would be one hour. 17:20.

Arriving at the terminal at 5:00 PM isn't enough. You still need to find the right desk and be served. Planning your trip right before closing time means risking your baggage being rejected.

This is an example of a desk closing time, not a recommended arrival time at the airport. Please factor in waiting time for service.

Why is Ryanair postponing the deadline?

The carrier explains that the earlier end of service is to give passengers more time to undergo security checks and reach the gate.

According to the airline, some travelers manage to check in their bags but then get stuck in queues and don't make it to boarding. This problem can be particularly noticeable during peak periods.

Ryanair has announced the change already April 22, 2026November is the date of its entry into force.

Who is affected by the early closure of positions?

The change should be taken into account primarily by people with checked baggage and passengers using the airport check-in.

According to the estimate provided by Ryanair, baggage checks are approximately 20 percent of his clients. People who check in online and travel with only hand luggage usually bypass bag drop-off points.

However, this doesn't mean they can arrive just before takeoff. They must still pass required checks and arrive at the gate by the time provided by the carrier.

Online check-in, baggage drop and boarding are separate stages of the journey. The completion of one does not replace the others.

Flight Delayed? Also Check Check-in Deadlines

Information about a later start should not be treated as automatic consent to later check-in of the bag.

Ryanair's new date is counted from scheduled departure timeIf the carrier provides different instructions for a specific flight, these must be followed. A "delayed" status alone is not sufficient to postpone arrival.

For example, if a flight is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the expected take-off is postponed to 8:00 p.m., a passenger should not assume without confirmation that the bag will be available for check-in until 7:00 p.m.

What should travellers to Cyprus do?

The new date must be taken into account both for departure and return. It will be particularly important to coordinate your departure time from your hotel or apartment and your transfer booking.

Before traveling, it is worth:

  • check instructions for a specific flight in the app and messages from the airline;
  • complete online check-in within the required timeframe;
  • add time for the queue to check in your suitcase;
  • take into account checks and reaching the goal;
  • plan for delays in transport to the airport.

Not every passenger needs to automatically postpone their departure by 20 minutes. Those who have already planned ahead may not need to change their journey.

The new limit is most important for those who previously checked in their baggage close to the closing time. From November 10, the current margin between 60 and 40 minutes before scheduled departure will no longer be available.
