Roadworks in Nicosia and Strovolos. Drivers will be stuck with detours for months.
Road closures, one-way traffic, and shifted lanes are disrupting traffic through Nicosia and Strovolos. Some restrictions will last until the end of the year, and on Tseriou Street, temporary traffic management is scheduled to remain in effect until January 10, 2027. Renovations under Digeni Akrita Avenue are scheduled to last approximately 28 weeks, until spring of next year.
Drivers should check road conditions before leaving and allow extra time for their journey. Google Maps and Waze may not reflect the latest closures and traffic diversions. If the app directs you to a no-entry zone or a closed street, follow the signs, emergency services' instructions, and use your own judgment.
Tseriou: One Direction Until January
On the Tseriou section between the Konstantinoupoleos intersection and Charalambou Pettemeridi Street, temporary one-way traffic is in force.
Access is permitted from Konstantinoupoleos towards the center of Strovolos, towards Rodopis and Strovolou Avenue. Drivers traveling in the opposite direction must use detours. According to a city statement, the restriction will remain in effect until January 10, 2027.
Separate work is underway on Tseriou between Myrtiótissas and Parnassou. This section remains open in both directions, but the lanes have been temporarily shifted. The planned completion date for this section of work is December 21, 2026.
The most important restrictions for drivers
Where are the works taking place and until when?
Tseriou: Konstantinoupoleos – Charalambou Pettemeridi
One-way traffic towards Strovolos center. Planned duration: until January 10, 2027.
Tseriou: Myrtiótissas – Parnassou
Passage in both directions with shifted lanes. Planned completion date: December 21, 2026.
Digeni Akrita, Agios Antonios area
Phased restrictions related to repairing the canal under the roadway. Work began on October 5th and is expected to last about 28 weeks.
Agios Georgios Estate in Pallouriotissa
Asphalt works planned until October 14, 2026, in hours 6:00–18:00Closures apply to streets covered by a given stage of work.
The dates are consistent with published schedules. Traffic arrangements may change as work progresses.
Digeni Akrita: work until spring
In the Agios Antonios area, near the Zorpas and Pandora bakeries, the water drainage channel under Digeni Akrita Avenue is being repaired and reinforced.
Work began on October 5. The planned 28-week period means disruptions extending into the spring of 2027.
The work is being carried out in phases, so the lane layout and restrictions may change. This doesn't mean the entire avenue will be closed for the entire duration of the work, but drivers should expect changes in subsequent sections.
Pallouriotissa: asphalting until October 14
In the Agios Georgios estate in Pallouriotissa, asphalt work began on October 6 and is scheduled to be completed on October 14.
The schedule covers the streets of Trikomou, Ypomonis, Foivis, Alkmínis, Elpidos, Pellis, Nausikas, Armonias, Akadimias, Dikaiosynis, Aisopu, Dafnis and Aiglis.
Work is being carried out from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Once the daily work is completed, the road being repaired will reopen to drivers. This list should not be considered a complete list of streets closed for the entire work period.
Difficulties also in the center and old Strovolos
In the historic center of Strovolos, roadworks are underway on Archiepiskopou Kyprianou and surrounding streets. Closures and access restrictions are in place. The schedule does not provide a definitive date for full reopening.
In Nicosia, work is also underway on Kritis Street, Filippiados Street, the southern section of Naxou Street, the northern section of Orfeos Street, and Konstantinou Palaiologou Street. Driving through the city center may require several reroutings, even for short distances.
Navigation is not a substitute for assessing the situation
Google Maps and Waze can help with route selection, but with frequently changing traffic patterns, they can also direct the driver to a closed section or suggest an impractical detour.
Before leaving, it's worth reading the latest city announcements. Signs, temporary markings, and police orders take precedence. An arrow on your phone screen does not constitute permission to enter a restricted area.
With so many simultaneous repairs, it is best to combine route checking with a reasonable assessment of what is actually happening on the road and with extra time for the journey.
