Road checks in Cyprus will be intensified on Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23. The police have announced a nationwide campaign during which they will pay particular attention to the use of seat belts and the proper transportation of children.
Officers will be checking both drivers and passengers. Child seats and booster seats will also be inspected. The scale of the problem remains significant – in the first half of 2026 alone, over 4,000 tickets were issued for not wearing seat belts.

Road checks in Cyprus all weekend
Intensified activities are planned for August 22 and 23, 2026 and will be conducted throughout the country.
This time, the police will focus primarily on seat belts and the way children are transported.

Over 4,000 fines in six months
Police statistics show the scale of the problem.
In the first half of 2026, the police issued 4,075 fines for not wearing seat belts by drivers or passengers.
That's an average of over 22 such offenses every day.
Additionally, it was noted 178 cases of passengers being carried on an unsecured seat.

One of the most important elements of the weekend campaign will be the method of transporting the youngest passengers.

The police emphasize that the aim of the increased checks is primarily to reduce the number of serious and fatal road accidents.
