Larnaca's Pattichio Park officially opened after a €5.3 million renovation. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 21st, although residents and tourists have been using the renovated area since August. The most striking feature of the development is the elevated footbridge overlooking the salt lake.

There's also a playground, walking and cycling trails, a botanical garden, and an outdoor gym. The park is especially popular in the afternoons, when visitors come for a stroll and to photograph the sunset. A restaurant, built as part of the project, is scheduled to open later.

An elevated footbridge and viewing points offer views of the salt lake and the surrounding landscape above the park paths. This part of the development has become one of the most recognizable elements of the renovated site.

According to Philenews, the park attracts hundreds of visitors, especially in the afternoon. Sunset photos are shared on social media, and the setting is also chosen by couples for wedding photoshoots.

The October ceremony wasn't the first day the park was open to the public. The park opened to the public in August, but now its official inauguration took place, with the Minister of Agriculture and the Mayor of Larnaca in attendance.

What will we find there?

The park combines spaces for relaxation with areas for activity. In addition to a footbridge and viewing points, there are walking and cycling trails, a botanical garden, and a playground.

The area also includes an outdoor gym, a picnic area, a small reservoir with a bridge, and a dog run.

According to the city, the space is accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities, making it suitable for both a short stroll and a family outing with a play break.

The reconstruction also included the Pattichio Municipal Amphitheatre, which remains an important venue for cultural events in Larnaca.

The restaurant is still before its opening

The investment also included the construction of a large restaurant. According to information published at the inauguration, it is scheduled to open at a later date.

When planning a visit, don't assume the restaurant is already serving guests. It's worth bringing water and planning your meal regardless of the announced dining options.

The 5.3 million euro renovation stirred up emotions

Work began in October 2023. The project cost €5.3 million and was co-financed by the European Union under the THALEIA 2021-2027 cohesion policy programme.

The investment was met with opposition from some residents. Concerns were raised about the scale of the intrusion into the Natura 2000 site, adjacent to a protected salt lake wetland.

During the inauguration, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized the importance of combining urban development with environmental protection. He also highlighted the lake's natural value and the responsibility for preserving this ecosystem.

For visitors, this means they must use designated trails and respect the surrounding nature. The popularity of the new attraction does not change the character of the adjacent protected area.
