Fuel prices in Cyprus could rise again. By as much as 3 cents per liter.
Fuel prices in Cyprus could rise by another 2-3 cents per liter this week. The Cyprus Association of Gas Station Owners suggests this is a possibility. This is an industry forecast, not a previously announced price increase applicable at all stations.
The announcement comes after earlier increases that pushed the average price of diesel fuel above €2 per liter. According to data cited on October 5, diesel fuel cost an average of around €2.028, while 95-grade unleaded petrol cost around €1.744 per liter.
Station owners expect further price increases
Christodoulos Christodoulou, vice-chairman of the Gas Station Owners Association, said prices are still on an upward trend. He believes the price increases haven't ended yet, and it's difficult to expect any reductions in the near future.
The industry is monitoring, among other things, refinery prices in Greece and market conditions. Based on this, it anticipates the possibility of further price increases for gasoline and diesel fuel.
There is no specific date for the changes. Prices at individual stations may be updated at different times and to varying degrees.
Diesel costs on average over 2 euros
Data released earlier this week shows a significant range in diesel prices. With an average of €2.028, the lowest price was around €1.939, and the highest was around €2.126 per liter.
That's a difference of almost 19 cents. When purchasing 50 liters, it translates to about €9.35 more at the most expensive station compared to the cheapest one on this list.
Earlier data, for October 2, showed the average diesel price at €2.026. A week earlier, on September 25, it was €1.997. Over the past seven days, diesel prices have increased by an average of 2.9 cents per liter.
Gasoline prices also rose during the same period. The average for 95-octane gasoline increased from €1.718 to €1.741, and for 98-octane gasoline from €1.773 to €1.795 per liter.

Before filling up, it's worth comparing several nearby stations. Differences can occur even within a single town and between locations within the same network.
The National Retail Fuel Price Observatory currently requires CY Login. Price lists can be viewed on the CyprNews website without creating an account.
It's always worth checking the data update date. The price shown at the pump may already differ from the last published value.

If the expected increase is 2-3 cents per litre, purchasing 50 litres of fuel will cost an additional €1 to €1.50.
The difference may seem small over a single fill-up. However, for daily commuters or those who regularly travel long distances, subsequent price increases mean mounting expenses.
Comparing stations makes sense especially when a cheaper location is nearby or on your planned route. An additional trip just for fuel also costs money and can reduce your savings.
Lower excise tax on heating oil from November
A separate solution is the announced reduction in excise tax on heating oil. From November 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027, the rate is to fall from 7.4 to 2.1 cents per liter.
However, the 5.3 cent tax reduction does not guarantee that the final price of heating oil will be lower than the current one. It also depends on fuel purchase prices and market conditions.
The discount applies to fuel used for heating. It does not presage a similar reduction in petrol or diesel prices at gas stations.
