A drift in Limassol blocks a roundabout. A wedding display is under police scrutiny.

A drift in Limassol, with pyrotechnics being set off on the road and cars waiting to cross—video from a roundabout prompted a reaction from Cypriot authorities. The video was circulated with the caption "Just Married." Police are investigating, and the Ministry of Justice and Public Order has condemned the dangerous behavior.

According to a more recent OmegaLive report, citing a statement from a Limassol police officer, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 31, at approximately 6:30 PM. It occurred as the wedding procession was traveling from the church to the reception venue. The footage is available on the CYPRNews YouTube channel.

Drift in Limassol. A roundabout turned into a show venue.

Cypriot media reports describe a car making controlled skids inside a roundabout. The maneuvers are accompanied by tire smoke and pyrotechnics being detonated on the road. People are nearby, and other drivers are forced to wait.

According to Philenews, access to the intersection was blocked by tow trucks. A police representative quoted by OmegaLive said cars were parked at the entrances to prevent other vehicles from entering the roundabout.

Ministry: Public roads are not racetracks

The Ministry of Justice unequivocally condemned the incident. In a statement cited by Politis, it emphasized that public roads are not intended for racing and cannot be arbitrarily occupied or blocked.

The Ministry cited the threat to human life and disruption to traffic. It also announced that the police had been instructed to immediately and thoroughly investigate the matter and identify all those who may be involved.

If the investigation reveals that crimes or offenses have been committed, appropriate provisions will be applied. However, the announcement of action does not mean that the responsibility of specific individuals has already been determined.

The police are investigating the circumstances and identifying the participants.

Initial reports indicated that Limassol traffic police had not received a prior report of the incident. Subsequent reports by SigmaLive and the Cyprus Mail confirmed that an investigation was underway.

However, there is a discrepancy in the reports regarding the name of the intersection. Philenews indicates the Linopetra roundabout, while the Cyprus Mail and OmegaLive describe the Agios Athanasios roundabout. Without further confirmation, these names should not be considered interchangeable.

The distinction between dates is also important. Sunday, November 1st, appears in reports as the day the video was published. According to a police officer's statement quoted by OmegaLive, the actual ride took place the previous evening.

The wedding signature does not indicate who was in charge

The caption "Just Married" initially suggested the video was about a wedding. A later statement from a police officer linked the incident to the passing of a procession. However, this does not establish the identity of the driver or the role of any individuals visible in the footage.

Previously, CYPRNews reported on another unusual sight from the streets of Limassol: a man sitting in the cab of a truck being transported on a flatbed trailer. We also separated the footage from the issues requiring investigation by the authorities.

The driver's behavior, the manner in which he blocked traffic, and the involvement of other people remain under investigation in the drifting incident. The Ministry has announced it will enforce the law regardless of the occasion for which the demonstration was organized.
