Life in Cyprus ranks high. Sixth place, but for whom?
Life in Cyprus has been ranked among the world's top Nomad Lifestyle Index 2026. The island ranked sixth out of 63 countries and territories analyzed, scoring 68.42 points out of 100. It outperformed Singapore, New Zealand, and Switzerland, among others. The category of legal residence and accessibility received particularly high ratings.
The result, however, requires context. The ranking was prepared by the private consulting firm Nomad Capitalist, which specializes in international residency and tax planning, among other areas. The ranking is particularly important for entrepreneurs, investors, and individuals choosing their country of residence. It doesn't mean that Cyprus is the sixth best place to live for every family.
Life in Cyprus appreciated by the authors of the ranking
Cyprus ranked just behind Portugal and ahead of Singapore. The strongest factor in its rating was its accommodation options and accessibility, earning the island second place in this category.
For those conducting international business, it's not just the climate and surroundings that matter. Legal residency, tax conditions, and the ability to travel freely are also important.
It is important to remember that A country's accessibility assessment does not imply an automatic right to residence or citizenshipThe conditions depend on the individual's situation, and obtaining a Cypriot passport is not a simple consequence of moving.
Which places overtook Cyprus?
Monaco received the highest score, followed by Andorra and the United Arab Emirates.
The authors note, however, that the top three are separated by just 0.74 points. They interpret this small difference as a practical tie, rather than evidence of a clear advantage for one direction.
Five areas, each equally important
The methodology is based on five pillars: environment and climate, taxes, residence and accessibility, security and freedom, and quality of life and infrastructure.
Everyone is responsible for 20 percent of the final gradeThis means that a favorable score on taxes or residence can offset weaker scores on the country's day-to-day functioning.
This is important when interpreting the slogan "best place to live." The ranking measures a specific set of conditions, not the personal satisfaction of all residents. It is not a survey in which Cypriot families rated their earnings, housing, or availability of services.
A high position does not eliminate everyday problems
According to the results overview, the weaker elements of Cyprus' assessment were quality of life and infrastructure, as well as air quality.
For someone considering a move, such considerations are as important as a place in the top 10. Earning income abroad and the ability to work remotely create a different situation than supporting a family on a local salary.
Where you live also matters. The budget needed in Limassol may differ from that in a smaller town. Before moving, it's worth separately assessing the costs of housing, transportation, and everyday purchases.
Ranking as the starting point for your own comparison
Cyprus's good location is a compelling argument for considering the island. However, it doesn't replace exploring what life would be like for a specific person here.
A stay can be a useful step before deciding to move, allowing you to familiarize yourself with daily distances, neighborhoods, and availability of services. It's also worth exploring places outside the resorts and checking if getting around the island suits you.
Sixth place among 63 destinations demonstrates the island's attractiveness according to the adopted methodology. However, whether living in Cyprus is a good choice will also depend on your budget, professional situation, and family needs.
