Part of the coastal road in Limassol will be closed on Sunday. The disruption is expected to last several hours.

On Sunday, September 27, drivers should prepare for the closure of sections of the coastal road in the eastern part of Limassol. The closure will be in effect from 10 a.m. 6:30 to 11:00 and will cover both directions of traffic on different sections of the route.

The reason for the change is a road race organized by the Amathounta municipality. Police will be setting up detours through local streets and are urging drivers to plan their morning journeys in advance. The race will begin at 8:00 AM.

The disruptions may primarily affect residents and people travelling on Sunday morning between Limassol, Germasogeia, Mouttagiaka, Agios Tychonas and towns further east.

Problems may also occur when reaching hotels, beaches, restaurants and other facilities along the coastal route.

The police will set up local detours

During the race, traffic will be diverted to adjacent streets. The exact route of the detours may depend on the current situation and the stage of the race participants are in.

Traffic management officers will be on site. Drivers should follow temporary signs and police instructions and avoid entering closed sections.

If traveling by coastal route is not essential, it's best to avoid Limassol's eastern coast in the morning. Those who must travel through this area should allow more time.

Races over three distances

Sunday's event includes races over distances of one, five, and ten kilometers. Organizers decided to use the coastal route, so it was necessary to temporarily close sections of it to traffic.

The disruptions will begin well before the race itself. Time will be needed to secure the course, set up barriers, and prepare the area for participants.

The road is expected to reopen around 11:00 a.m. However, drivers should expect that traffic may continue to increase immediately after the event ends.

Difficulties also in the Nicosia district

On Saturday, September 26, temporary changes to traffic organization will also be introduced in the Agia Marina Xyliatou area in the Nicosia district, where the cycling festival is taking place.

Roads there will remain open. However, police may temporarily regulate traffic to allow safe passage for event participants.

Drivers driving in this area should exercise extreme caution and expect groups of cyclists on the road.

Limassol residents will experience the most disruption on Sunday morning. Those planning to travel the coastal road should choose an alternative route or postpone their journey until after the race concludes.
