August saw 1034% of normal rainfall. Most of the rain fell in three days.
August 2026 will be an exceptionally rainy month. The average rainfall total was 30 mm, compared to the monthly norm of just 2.9 mm. This represents a staggering 1,034% of the norm, according to preliminary data from the Department of Meteorology.
Most interestingly, 22.5 of the 30 mm fell in the last three days of August. It was the violent storms at the end of the month that completely changed the statistics for what is typically one of the driest periods of the year.

83.9 mm in Platania
The highest rainfall was measured in Platania – 83.9 mm, i.e. 655% of the August norm for this station.
The percentages are even more spectacular in places where it normally hardly rains at all in August.
IN Frenaros 27.3 mm was recorded while the norm was only 0.1 mm, which gives 27 300% of the norm. In Xylotymbou it rained 40 mm with an average of 0.2 mm – 20,000% of the norm.
These huge percentages are primarily due to the very low typical rainfall total in August.
More than 40 times more rain at Larnaca Airport
It rained at Larnaca airport 26.2 mm of rain, while the August norm there is 0.6 mm. This is over 40 times higher than average.
At Panagia Bridge station, 43.4 mm was recorded against the norm of 1.5 mm.
The exceptions were Pano Panagia, where no rainfall was recorded, and Paphos Airport, where 0.2 mm was roughly the monthly norm.

The entire season was also above normal
From October 1, 2025 to the end of August 2026, the average rainfall amount reached 608.3 mm, i.e. 122% of the norm for this period.
According to meteorological data, all measuring stations have already exceeded 100% of the normal rainfall total for the current hydrological season.
The August result is special, however – not because 30 mm is a huge amount of rain in a year, but because This month in Cyprus rainfall is usually minimal.
