Dogs Run onto Roads: Police Warn Drivers in Cyprus
Following several dog accidents in the Kornos, Kofinou, and Anglisides areas, Cyprus police have urged drivers to reduce their speed. The warning was issued on Sunday, October 18. It applies to roads running through and near hunting grounds.
Animals can unexpectedly run into the road. Police remind people that hunters also frequent such areas. The appeal also covers other areas of the island—not just the towns where the reported incidents occurred.
Dogs hit in three areas
The announcement mentioned the surrounding area Kornos, Kofinou and AnglisidesThe exact number of depredations and information on the condition of the animals were not provided.
Philenews clarified that these dogs are hunting dogs. Near hunting areas, they may appear along roads and suddenly cross the road.
The police warning primarily concerns the behavior of drivers: lower speed and careful observation of the road and roadsides.
Warning also outside the collision areas
This appeal should not be considered information specific to the three locations indicated. Police are appealing to all individuals traveling through or near hunting areas.
This is also important for tourists exploring Cyprus by rental car. When traveling between towns, it's worth remaining vigilant even on quieter stretches outside built-up areas.
The presence of a dog on the side of the road should be a signal to increase caution. The animal can change direction suddenly, so it's a good idea to slow down before it enters the path of a car.
