Poland and Cyprus discuss security. Military and diplomats meet.
Polish Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski and Defense Attaché Lieutenant Colonel Adam Korolczuk met with representatives of the Cypriot Ministry of Defense, National Guard, and diplomatic corps on October 2nd. One of the topics discussed was cooperation between Poland and Cyprus in the fields of defense and security.
According to the Polish embassy, the meeting was also an opportunity to express appreciation for the service and commitment of Polish soldiers. The embassy did not provide detailed information on the arrangements or announce the signing of new agreements.

The Polish side was represented by Ambassador Marek Szczepanowski and Lieutenant Colonel Adam Korolczuk, who served as defense, military, naval and air attaché.
The event was attended by representatives of Cyprus's two most important defense institutions: the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard. Members of the diplomatic corps were also present.

The day after Cyprus' independence celebrations
The meeting took place the day after the Republic of Cyprus' Independence Day, which took place on October 1st. In 2026, the country celebrated its 66th anniversary of independence.
The proximity of the two dates is noteworthy, but available embassy information does not confirm that the meeting was part of Cypriot festivities. Therefore, such a connection should not be presented as established fact.
This year's celebrations included events that brought residents closer to the armed forces. In Larnaca, the Cypriot patrol vessel Ioannidis and the Greek frigate Nikiforos Fokas were open for tours.
Cooperation also in the field of cybersecurity
Polish-Cypriot security relations also include collaboration between research institutions and businesses. A specific example was the POLCYBER forum, the third edition of which took place on November 6, 2025, in Nicosia.
The event was organised by the Polish Embassy together with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the office of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency in Athens and the Polish-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
Representatives from government, academia, and business attended, including the Polish and Cypriot Ministries of Defense. Discussions focused on defense, cybersecurity, advanced technologies, and opportunities for developing economic partnerships.
Two cooperation agreements were signed during the forum. One was between the Cypriot defense sector cluster and the Polish Aviation Valley. The second connected the Cypriot association of research and innovation companies (CARIE) with the Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
Why does Cyprus celebrate independence on October 1?
The Republic of Cyprus was established on August 16, 1960. We explain why the official celebrations take place on a different date.
LEARN THE HISTORY OF THE HOLIDAYMilitary and diplomatic contacts
Previous agreements demonstrate that cooperation between Poland and Cyprus encompasses both state-to-state contacts and the exchange of knowledge and technology. The POLCYBER Forum also enabled entrepreneurs from both countries to establish direct business relations.
The October 2nd meeting provided another opportunity for talks between Polish representatives and Cypriot defense institutions. However, the published statement does not indicate any new commitments, contracts, or joint ventures agreed upon during the event.
