Nicosia's Christmas season begins in November. Parades, markets, and Paramythoupoli
The Nicosia holidays will begin well before December. According to the program reported by Philenews, the first events are scheduled for November 12th, with Paramythoupoli, a Christmas amusement park, opening a day later. The city's lighting ceremony is scheduled for November 29th.
Plans include parades, a concert, fairs, and family-friendly activities in the city center and other districts. Some details remain to be announced, including the name of the Greek artist who will perform during the city lighting event. The official main city program covers the period from November 29, 2026, to January 6, 2027.
Nicosia Christmas: Two parades will meet in Freedom Square
One of the most important events will be the evening of the Christmas illuminations. According to Philenews, two parades will reach Eleftherias Square, or Freedom Square, along different routes.
The first will depart from Stasikratous Street and proceed along Makariou Avenue. The second will begin at Faneromeni Square and then proceed along Ledra and Onasagorou Streets. Both marches will end at Freedom Square.
The evening is set to culminate in a concert by a renowned Greek performer. The announcement did not reveal his name or the exact start times for each part of the event.
Paramythoupoli returns in November
The Christmas amusement park is set to reopen in the D'Avila moat, next to the municipal parking lot. The opening date has been confirmed by Philenews and Check In Cyprus.
This is a separate attraction with its own calendar. The park's operating hours should not be confused with the timing of all city events, nor should it be assumed that every market will be open every day.
Philenews lists opening hours as 5:00 PM–11:00 PM, while another published list distinguishes between weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Until the schedule is clearly confirmed, it's best to check the opening hours for a specific day.
Fairs and family events in various parts of the city
The announced calendar covers the center, as well as Aglantzia, Engomi, and Agios Dometios. The program includes musical performances, dance shows, choirs, stalls, and children's activities.
The dates below are from a Philenews article published on November 1st. The city's announcement confirms the framework for the main holiday season, but does not yet include a complete schedule of all the events listed.
The main program will run until January
The city hall has announced a festive route connecting Freedom Square with Paramythoupoli in the D'Avila Moat. Events will also take place in other central districts of Nicosia.
The city's invitation to contribute to the program lists concerts, performances, workshops, street activities, and fairs, among other activities. This is an organizational framework, not a confirmation that each of these attractions will be available during any given visit.
For families planning a trip, the most convenient option will be to choose a specific event and then match the walk around the center to it.
What to check before leaving?
Before traveling, it's worth confirming the starting time of your chosen attraction and its exact location. For parades, the starting point is also important—not all parades will depart from Freedom Square.
There's no complete price list for Paramythoupoli or payment methods for all events. Therefore, it's best to budget for a family outing after checking with the organizer, taking into account attractions, food, and transportation separately.
Those attending evening events should also check for the possibility of returning afterward. A Christmas visit to the capital doesn't have to encompass the entire program: a single concert, a market, or a stroll through the illuminated city center can be a standalone idea.
