You can redeem your Polish e-prescription in Cyprus. First, activate it in your IKP.
A Polish e-prescription can be redeemed in Cyprus without a paper printout. Before visiting a pharmacy, however, you must consent to the processing of prescriptions abroad on your Online Patient Account. This service is available to adults and requires finding a participating pharmacy.
We will pay the full price for the medicine, even if it's reimbursed in Poland. Upon return, you can apply for reimbursement from the National Health Fund (NFZ) in accordance with applicable rules. There are also limitations: not all medications and prescription types can be filled abroad, and for children, a cross-border prescription in paper form is required.
Polish e-prescription in Cyprus - the service is already operational
The possibility of redeeming Polish e-prescriptions in Cyprus was announced in August 2025. This is a useful solution for tourists and people living between Poland and Cyprus.
There's no need to ask your doctor for a special electronic version of your prescription. However, it's worth informing your doctor that you're planning to purchase the prescribed medication abroad. This will allow you to check in advance whether the medication is eligible for this type of delivery.
The prescription itself, either on the IKP or in the mojeIKP app, does not change its appearance. The most important thing is the patient's consent to share the data needed to dispense the medication in another country.
How to activate e-prescription in Cyprus?
- Log in to Online Patient Account.
- Open tab "Authorizations".
- Choose "Consent to the processing of your e-prescriptions abroad", and then the "Agree" tile.
- Indicate Cyprus as the country where you want to redeem e-prescriptions.
- Consent to the processing of data related to the processing of e-prescriptions abroad.
You can later check or withdraw your consent in the "Authorizations" tab. Before purchasing, ask if the pharmacy you choose accepts Polish cross-border e-prescriptions.
What do you need to show the pharmacist?
In the pharmacy you will need ID card or other ID document with a photo, for example, a passport. The pharmacist will also provide information about the processing of personal data, which the patient should familiarize themselves with.
Prescription data is transmitted electronically. Therefore, a paper printout is not required for processing within this system.
It's worth checking the availability of the product beforehand. The brand name or package size may differ from those available in Poland. If the prescription allows this, the pharmacist may suggest an alternative.
Not every prescription can be filled abroad
The system covers ready-made prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs prescribed via e-prescription – both reimbursed and non-reimbursed.
You cannot redeem this way:
- psychotropic and narcotic drugs;
- prescription drugs, i.e. those prepared in a pharmacy;
- drugs of the "Rpz" category, intended for restricted use;
- foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses;
- medical devices.
We will also not fill annual prescriptions that require the purchase of medications in batches. This is especially important for people who take medications regularly and plan to stay on the island for a longer period of time.
Pay attention to the number of packages
In the case of cross-border execution, it is not possible to later purchase the remaining packages from the same prescription.
If you need the entire prescribed quantity, you must purchase it in one go. If the pharmacy only dispenses part of the medication, the missing packages will not be available for collection later—even after your return to Poland.
Therefore, before confirming your purchase, it's a good idea to check with your pharmacist to ensure they have enough medication. This will help avoid situations where some of the prescribed packages go unused.
Full payment and the possibility of applying for a refund
Polish reimbursement is not available for purchases made at Cypriot pharmacies. Patients pay the full price and can then apply for reimbursement from the National Health Fund (NFZ).
Submitting a request does not automatically guarantee reimbursement of the entire cost. Settlement depends on Polish reimbursement rules and patient eligibility. The mere fact that a prescription has been issued in Poland does not guarantee reimbursement for every purchased product.
Please keep your purchase documents. Please include the following information in your e-prescription request: 44-digit access key, which is located under the barcode in the prescription PDF file.
For children, a paper prescription is required
Cross-border electronic prescription is a solution for adults. A doctor can only issue a cross-border prescription to a child in paper form.
Before a family trip, it's a good idea to inform the doctor that the child will be purchasing medication in Cyprus and ask for a prescription. Simply having parental access to the child's IKP account doesn't replace this procedure.
It is best to complete the preparations before visiting the pharmacy: check the type of prescription, provide the required consent and make sure that the chosen facility supports the cross-border system.
