The Cyprus Emergency Medical Services are undergoing a reorganization. The new facility is scheduled to launch in January.

Preparations for the launch of the new institution were presented by the Minister of Health, Neofytos Charalambides, during the presentation of the ministry's budget for 2027.

The planned start date of operations is January 1, 2027This isn't about starting an ambulance service from scratch, but about changing the organization of the existing ambulance service.

Staff will be transferred from OKYPY, the Organization of State Health Services, to the Ministry of Health to serve the new entity. The manner in which this operation is carried out requires additional regulatory changes.

Over 80 employees and the statutory limit

As described by Philenews, the current regulations limit the secondment of employees employed for an indefinite period of time to 80 people or 15 percent of those so employed in a given organization, whichever is lower.

The justification for the project indicates that the inability to allocate an appropriate number of staff could cause serious organisational difficulties in providing urgent pre-hospital assistance.

Financing services and purchasing ambulances
